Jonathan Tah has emerged as one of FC Barcelona’s top transfer targets for the summer of 2025, having been a free agent from Bayer Leverkusen.
The La Liga leaders had expressed interest in the German last summer, but the move fell due to Leverkusen’s reluctance to part ways with their star player.
However, with no indication of a renewal, Tah looks set to leave the club this summer and it seems Barcelona are well placed to sign him.
In fact, according to agent Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Barcelona and Jonathan Tah are already at an advanced stage.
Confirming this morning’s report, the Italian journalist adds that the Blaugrana are indeed leading the race to sign the 28-year-old German centre-back. As previously reported, clubs such as Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan, among others, have shown interest in the reigning champions, but it is Barça that is the favourite.
In fact, Catalan manager Hansi Flick himself is involved in the operation, hoping that a full deal can be reached to sign his compatriot for free.
Barça already have a well-equipped central department with players such as Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo, Inigo Martinez, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia and young Sergi Dominguez.
With the possibility of Tah arriving at the end of the season, the Catalan heavyweights will have to sacrifice one or two of their current central defenders to free up space and avoid a bloated defensive unit.
The names of Christensen and Garcia are circulating as potential candidates for sale. In fact, it was reported earlier today that Barcelona could be willing to part with Christensen in January for a reported €30m to facilitate Dani Olmo’s registration.
