Barcelona and Lewandowski to Discuss Future in Crunch Talks

Perhaps no player has been more controversial than Robert Lewandowski last year at Barcelona, with the Polish striker having had his share of ups and downs. At 36, many are questioning whether he can still make a difference at the highest level.

According to Sport, Barcelona will discuss his future in February, after the January transfer window closes. If he plays at least 45 minutes in half of their games this season, he will see his contract extended by a fourth year.

The Blaugrana are expecting him to reach that figure in February and will discuss his future before then. Marcus Rashford prefers to join Barcelona. He believes his qualities fit well with the club’s style of play. Barca have been informed of his situation but have yet to make any moves to sign him.

They continue to claim that part of the Barca board believe it is time to part ways next summer. However, sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick believe his performances have been at a high level and are counting on him next summer.

However, if his form continues to decline, the debate will be open and, above all, they believe that he would be willing to retire if the club is honest and fair with him. His intention, as things stand, is to stay.

Lewandowski is the undisputed leader in the Pichichi at this stage, with 16 goals in 17 games, 5 more than his nearest rivals. In recent weeks, his form has declined and Flick himself seems concerned about his fitness.

Lewandowski has been substituted in every game in December, apart from the first game against RCD Mallorca, where he did not play for the first time this season.
