Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that Ghana stands to gain significantly from the NPP remaining in power. He emphasized that the party has crafted policies aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Ghanaians and supporting business growth.

While campaigning at the Kaneshie market in Okaikoi South, Dr. Bawumia shared his vision for Ghana’s future, highlighting key initiatives such as the introduction of a flat tax policy in cedis on all goods, and a tax amnesty to simplify dealings with the Ghana Revenue Authority. He also reiterated the NPP’s commitment to supporting small businesses and women traders by establishing an SME bank and a women’s trade empowerment fund.

Dr. Bawumia also announced plans to remove import duties on mobile phones, extend the validity of driving licenses to 10 years, and abolish the e-levy. Additionally, he promised to train the youth in digital skills to prepare them for the future economy.

Urging voters to endorse him as Ghana’s next president, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of long-term accountability. He contrasted his potential presidency with that of his opponent, former President John Dramani Mahama, noting that Mahama’s limited four-year term would restrict his accountability. In contrast, Dr. Bawumia pledged to remain accountable to Ghanaians if elected.

“We are introducing a new directive to reform the import regime at the Port, including a flat tax policy in cedis applicable to all goods, making Ghana’s import duty comparable to or lower than Togo’s. We are also launching a women’s bank, an SME bank dedicated to supporting women traders with financial assistance for their businesses. Additionally, we are introducing a tax amnesty to avoid confusion with the Ghana Revenue Authority and eliminating import duty on mobile phones,” he stated.

He added, “Furthermore, we will extend the validity of driving licenses to 10 years, abolish the e-levy, and provide digital skills training for the youth. If you vote for former President John Dramani Mahama, he will only be accountable for four years. However, if you vote for me, I will have the opportunity to be accountable to you for a longer period.”
