Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was named coach of the month for December 2024-25 on Monday. The award comes after Atletico beat Barcelona 2-1 to go top of the La Liga table on Saturday with their 12th consecutive win in all competitions.

After the match, the Argentine coach admitted that Barca had been the better team for most of the match and highlighted the fighting spirit of his players as the team came back from a goal down to claim their first away win against the Catalans since 2006, years before he arrived at the club.

“I am very happy with the team’s effort. We had the humility to suffer and defend against a team that plays very well. In the first half and until our goal, I thought they were better than us,” Simeon told journalists.

“After that, I think we started to find our feet in the game and we saw that we could compete in the game.
