Ashanti Regional Minister Launches DRIP Project

Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, has officially launched the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) at the Regional Coordinating Council. This groundbreaking initiative by the Ghanaian government aims to empower Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with the necessary tools and resources to enhance road networks nationwide.

Addressing the ceremony, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah highlighted the program’s primary objective: to address the pressing need for road maintenance and construction equipment in MMDAs. This will foster sustainable improvement, enhance connectivity, and spur economic growth. The program is designed to have a ripple effect, creating direct jobs to reduce unemployment, boosting agricultural productivity, and increasing access to markets.

Hon. Simon Osei Mensah emphasized the benefits of the program, stating that farmers will benefit from better transportation routes, reducing post-harvest losses and expanding their reach to urban markets. This will have a positive impact on the lives of people within the district and the country as a whole.

In an interview, Hon. Maurice Jonas Woode, District Chief Executive of Adansi Akrofuom, applauded the government for this transformative road initiative. He praised the government’s efforts to improve the lives of citizens and expressed his enthusiasm for the program’s potential.

Nana Yaw Sarkodie Aboagye, Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Jospong Group and Zoomlion, urged all MMDCEs to utilize the equipment for its intended purpose, warning against using it for private business. He emphasized that this will ensure the program achieves its goals and benefits the community.

The DRIP project is a significant step towards revolutionizing Ghana’s road network, and its launch marks a new era in the country’s development. With its focus on empowering MMDAs and enhancing road connectivity, the program has the potential to transform the lives of citizens and drive economic growth.
