The Amakom Artisans’ Association, comprising mechanical fitters at Odifo Asare, Sobolo-Lobito, near the Babayara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, has appealed to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Honorable Osei Mensah Simon, to intervene in a land dispute that threatens their livelihoods.
At a press conference held today, the artisans alleged that Osofo Maame Agnes, who claims ownership of the land, has been using police and land guards to harass and intimidate them. They reported that on Wednesday last week, land guards attacked them, resulting in injuries to some members.
The artisans, who have occupied and worked on the land for over 70 years, expressed shock and disappointment at Osofo Maame Agnes’s actions, particularly since the matter is currently before the courts.
As law-abiding citizens who believe in the justice system, the artisans questioned why Osofo Maame Agnes is using force against them while the issue is still in court.
The artisans urged the Ashanti Regional Minister to intervene and ensure their safety and security. They also appealed to the police to remain impartial and avoid taking sides in the dispute.
While emphasizing that they are not troublemakers, the artisans vowed to continue working on the land despite the threats and intimidation. They called on the authorities to resolve the matter quickly and maintain peace in the community, and solicited public support for their fight for justice.
