Akufo-Addo questions Mahama’s Leadership, warns of threat to Free SHS Policy

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed concerns about the leadership ability of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, warning that his return to power could jeopardize key policies, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.

During a meeting with the chiefs and people of the North-East Region, President Akufo-Addo cautioned that a vote for Mahama and the NDC in the upcoming December 7 general elections could result in the cancellation of major initiatives like the Free SHS policy.

The president referenced recent statements made by Mahama, suggesting that the NDC leader might scrap the programme if elected.

“Let’s ask him [Mahama], which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take as your real position? Because this chopping and changing, chopping and changing, is a very difficult thing for some of us to understand,” Akufo-Addo remarked.

He urged Mahama to clarify his stance on the Free SHS policy, emphasizing that Ghanaians deserve to know the truth about a programme that has impacted the education of many students across the country.

The president further questioned Mahama’s consistency: “Are you going to change it? Are you going to cancel it? Are you going to improve it? Because every time you open your mouth, you say a different thing.”

Akufo-Addo concluded by casting doubt on Mahama’s reliability, saying, “I don’t think a man who talks like that, who wants the supreme office of our country, is somebody who can be trusted.”
