Air France has ceased its direct three-times-a-week passenger flights between Paris and Accra, Ghana’s capital.
While no official reason was provided, aviation analysts suggest the decision stems from reduced passenger demand following the airline’s exit from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—three Sahelian countries now under military rule.
Previously, Air France operated the Paris-Accra route with a stopover in Burkina Faso. However, strained diplomatic relations between France and Burkina Faso after the military takeover led to the removal of this stopover, significantly impacting passenger numbers.
Industry experts consulted by AviationGhana consider the termination of the Burkina Faso stopover a key factor in the decision to suspend flights to Accra altogether, effective October 26, 2024.
Air France, a member of the Air France-KLM group, operated its final flight to Kotoka International Airport on October 25, 2024.
