Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has announced her decision to contest the 2024 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate. This comes after she lost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary to Christopher Arthur on April 13.
In a statement to her constituents, Morrison declared, “God willing, I will be contesting the parliamentary election as an independent candidate… It’s not about the NDC or NPP; it’s about the development of Agona.” She emphasized that her priority is to complete the work she started, urging voters to support her regardless of their presidential candidate preference.
Morrison has a strong track record in the constituency, winning the seat in 2016 with 58.03% of the votes and retaining it in 2020 with 51.6% of the votes. Her decision to run as an independent candidate sets the stage for a competitive election in Agona West.”
