On July 4, 2024, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin presented the Democracy Cup to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, acknowledging his commitment to democratic governance and consolidation. This milestone event marked 30 years of Ghana’s fourth Republic, celebrating the country’s progress in entrenching democracy and promoting peace and stability.

Speaker Bagbin praised President Akufo-Addo’s dedication to upholding democratic principles, fostering a culture of tolerance and inclusivity, and implementing initiatives to deepen democratic governance and promote economic development. The Democracy Cup symbolizes Ghana’s commitment to democratic values and principles, and its presentation underscores the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislative branches in promoting democratic governance.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including members of Parliament, government officials, and representatives of civil society organizations. A football match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will also be played on July 17, 2024 at the Accra Sports Stadium, aiming to engage the youth, promote peace and unity, and foster national solidarity ahead of the December 2024 elections.
