An Accra court has remanded Mohammed Ibrahim, alias Commander Kanawu, leader of the NDC Revolution, in police custody until September 26. Ibrahim was arrested on September 11 for threatening to kill public officials.
The Ghana Police Service declared him wanted on September 9 after a video surfaced showing Ibrahim threatening to shoot Interior Minister Henry Quartey and Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa.
In the video, Commander Kanawu bragged about not fearing arrest and swore by his late father’s corpse and God that he and his men would kill the officials. He specifically threatened to shoot Quartey in the stomach.
Ibrahim also targeted other officials, including the Electoral Commission’s Deputy Chairman, Bossman Asare, and made allegations against the police hierarchy.
The police have ongoing investigations into the threats, and a GHC50,000 bounty was placed on his head before his arrest.
Commander Kanawu’s threats sparked concern, prompting swift action from the authorities.
