Abdul Samed Joins Sunderland on Loan from RC Lens

Sunderland AFC has secured the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed on a season-long loan from French club RC Lens. The move, finalized on transfer deadline day, adds depth to Sunderland’s squad for the 2024/25 season.

Abdul Samed, who had attracted interest from multiple French clubs, including FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne, opted for a move to the English Championship side. The loan deal does not include an option for a permanent transfer.

The 23-year-old midfielder played 39 times for Lens last season, featuring in the Champions League and Europa League. His experience and skillset will be valuable assets to Sunderland, now managed by Régis Le Bris.

Abdul Samed’s arrival marks a late but significant addition to Sunderland’s squad, which has been bolstered by several signings during the summer transfer window.
