In an effort to exploit the seaport as a logistical hub for the importation of grain, representatives of GoLOCAL, a Ukrainian non-governmental organization (NGO), have visited the Tema Port for a working visit.
In order to support its sustainable operations in sub-Saharan Africa, the NGO plans to import grain products from Eastern Europe.
To discuss the possibility of a partnership with the facility, the GoLOCAL official and their Ghanaian colleagues met with the director of Tema Port under the direction of Mr. Ivan Lukachuk, the Ukrainian Head of Diplomatic Missions in Ghana.
According to Mr. Lukachuk, they realized that Ghana, a developing market similar to Ukraine’s, may be a highly promising location for their operations.
He went on to say that their German and American colleagues were also operating in Ghana and that they would like to take advantage of these relationships to work on bilateral projects between Ghana and Ukraine, among other things.
As long as it complied with national security regulations and was legal, the decision to use the port for food imports was applauded by Mrs. Sandra Opoku, the director of the Port of Tema.
She suggested that they think about the prospect of fulfilling the need to create a manufacturing facility within the Tema Free Zone Enclave.
Because the Port of Tema is close to the enclave, she claimed, it would offer them an advantage.
