Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist Shatta Wale is facing criticism after a video of his mother, Madam Elsie Evelyn Avemegah, went viral. In the video, she accuses her son of neglecting her.
Madam Elsie Evelyn Avemegah first gained significant attention in 2022 when she revealed she had been evicted from her home after six years. She has accused Shatta Wale of neglecting her for over five years, despite her worsening condition and numerous unsuccessful attempts to reach out for assistance.
Recently, she disclosed her deteriorating health, including severe issues like hypertension, and claimed she has received no support from her son. Her niece, Sherita, recently corroborated this on TikTok, detailing Shatta Wale’s prolonged absence and the family’s struggles in caring for the over 70-year-old woman.
In a recent viral video, Shatta Wale’s mother confirmed her dire situation: “Good evening Ghana, My name is Elsie Evelyn Avemegah, I am the biological mum of Shatta Wale. My son, for about ten or more years now, I haven’t spoken with him. He doesn’t know where I live, he doesn’t know what I eat. Now it has gotten to the extent that my health keeps dropping. I am seriously ill and not well at all. Sherita Mawusi is the one who takes me here and there.
“Please, what she is saying, she is not lying at all. I am very ill and currently sleeping in my little sister’s room. I am not that old, but it’s my condition that has made me look this deteriorated.”
Addressing the backlash, critics have condemned Shatta Wale for allegedly neglecting his mother while living a lavish lifestyle. They argue that his priorities seem misplaced, as he spends on luxuries instead of helping his family in need.
Conversely, some defend Shatta Wale, suggesting there might be undisclosed grievances or misunderstandings behind the scenes.
