Authorities in the Anloga District have paid a condolence visit to the families of pupils affected by Wednesday’s tragic bee attack at the Anloga Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Basic School.
The unfortunate incident claimed the lives of two pupils and left others injured.
The delegation, led by Mr Francis Agbemadi, the Volta Regional Director of Education, included Mr Dominic Yao Dzanado, the Anloga District Director of Education and Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE).
Other members of the team were Mr Lawson Samlafo, a Regional Planning Officer; Mr Thywill Deynu, the Headteacher of Anloga EP Basic School; Mr Johnson Bokovi, Assembly Member for the area; executives of the School Management Committee (SMC), executives of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and other key stakeholders.
The team began the visit at the Anloga EP Basic School to assess the situation on the premises and evaluate the extent of the incident. They proceeded to the Anloga township to commiserate with the families of the two deceased pupils.
The delegation later visited the Keta Government Hospital, where a six-year-old pupil who also sustained severe injuries in the attack was still receiving medical care and responding to treatment.
During the visits, members of the delegation expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and sympathised with the injured pupil and his relatives, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and distressing.
Addressing the situation, Madam Kpedor, the DCE, assured the community that immediate steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence.

She pledged that the District Assembly would promptly engage the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana National Fire Service to deploy technical experts to destroy and safely remove the beehives from the school’s premises and, where necessary, conduct similar operations in other schools across the district.
In an interaction with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Emmanuel Komeko, the father of one of the deceased pupils, described the loss as devastating but said the family was trying to come to terms with the tragedy.
“Though the situation is unbearable, we just have to accept it as such. My son had only just begun school,” he said.
Mr Francis Agbemadi, on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, assured the affected families of institutional support, including assistance towards the burial of the deceased pupils.
He explained that since the incident occurred within the school environment, the Education Service would work with relevant authorities, to ensure the families receive the necessary support during this difficult period.
In an interview with the GNA, Mr Dominic Yao Dzanado, the Anloga District Director of Education, said further deliberations had commenced to prevent a recurrence.
He added that discussions were also underway to determine how best a single, befitting burial could be organised for the two deceased pupils.
The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to improving safety in schools across the district, as investigations and preventive measures continued in the wake of the tragic incident.
