The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) is set to intensify public sensitisation on the growing incidence of online fraud across the country.
Mr. Robert Kwesi Boame, Oti Regional Director of the NCCE, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that current intelligence indicated a surge in fraudulent activities, particularly fake online shops and impersonation of legitimate companies used to deceive unsuspecting citizens.
He said regional and district directors have been directed to integrate awareness on online fraud into ongoing civic education activities.
The sensitisation campaign, he said, would emphasise the need for citizens to verify the identities of online shops and companies before making payments, practise safe internet habits, cross-check information on credible platforms, and report suspected fraud to security agencies.
Mr. Boame said reports indicated that victims lost about GH¢2.4 million to online fraud in the first quarter of 2024, a figure that rose to GH¢4.4 million in the same period of 2025—representing an increase of about 83 per cent.
He cautioned that online fraud cases were likely to rise during the yuletide and urged the public to remain vigilant.
