Volta Youth in Agriculture has expressed their support for the government’s commitment to making agriculture a key driver of economic growth as outlined in the 2026 budget.
The group viewed the move as a positive step towards boosting the agriculture sector to help improve productivity.
In a press release signed by Madam Mawutor Joy Fiamavle, the Public Relations Officer of the group, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, highlighted that the initiative was expected to increase productivity, reduce labour, and improve overall efficiency in farming practices.
“We are an organisation which is focused on engaging young people in agricultural activities to promote sustainable practices, and contribute to food security in the Volta Region and beyond.”
It explained that agriculture was one of the significant sectors in the country’s economy and building a focus on it as a key driver of growth could lead to improved economic outcomes, including job creation and poverty reduction, especially in rural areas.
The release said the government’s emphasis on agriculture in the 2026 budget was seen by the group as a demonstration of its commitment to boosting the sector and that the initiative could lead to more resources being allocated to the sector to support farmers and agricultural projects in various areas.
“The Volta Youth in Agriculture as an organisation has undertaken various initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity. We are looking forward to the implementation of the government projects before the start of the next farming season to maximise impact.”
It emphasised that despite the potential in agriculture sector, the country faced many challenges such as limited access to modern machinery, poor infrastructure, and climate change impacts and addressing such problems could be crucial for the sector’s growth.
The release urged other farming organisations in the region to encourage and mobilise young people and introducing them to modern techniques, and advocating for policies that support agricultural development to improve the progress of the sector for a brighter future.
It stated that preparations were underway for the next season farming and appealed to government to ensure that the initiatives were implemented effectively to provide timely and necessary support and resources to farmers.
