Mr Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), together with officials from the Ghana Railways Development Authority (GRDA), have visited the family of a man knocked down and killed by a moving train near Bediako.

The deceased, identified as Mr Enock Eshun, 28 years old, died after being hit recently by a moving train near Bediako in the Kpone-Katamanso municipality, leaving behind a wife and two children.
Mr Morton, who led the delegation, expressed the government’s condolences to the bereaved family and described the incident as tragic and deeply regrettable.
He said the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) stands with the family during their difficult moment and assured them of the necessary support to ensure the deceased get a befitting burial.
The MCE further underscored the need for residents to exercise extreme caution when walking or operating near railway tracks.
“We plead with the public to be extra careful. Train movement is constant and sometimes unpredictable. Your safety must always come first,” he said.
Mr Morton also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving safety measures along railway corridors within the municipality.
Ms Sahadatu Alhassan, Corporate Affairs Manager of the GRDA, extended her sympathies to the family, describing the incident as very unfortunate.

Ms Alhassan noted that the purpose of the railway service was to serve communities, not to endanger them.
She said the GRDA remained committed to intensifying public education on railway safety, especially the dangers of crossing tracks at unauthorised points.
“We will step up sensitisation programmes to ensure that residents understand the risks. We must all work together to protect lives and property,” she emphasised.

She assured the family of the deceased that her outfit would continue to collaborate with local assemblies and community leaders to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The delegation later visited the accident site and engaged community members on safety concerns along the railway line.
