The League Social Democrats, an emerging political group within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wenchi Municipality, has donated a brand-new wheelchair and an undisclosed sum of money for the upkeep of a physically-challenged woman, Madam Cecilia Tapi, putting a smile on her face.
Madam Tapi, the beneficiary, could not hide her joy and told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kokoroko in Municipality of the Bono Region that her half-damaged wheelchair had restricted her movements, thereby making her socially excluded for years now.
She said she was surprised and highly excited by the gifts and expressed appreciation to the group, saying the money would also enable her to meet her medical bills.
Madam Tapi shared her unpleasant experiences and that of other colleagues, and appealed for support from the government, and philanthropists, expressing the worry that the fundamental human rights and dignity of most Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) were often abused.

She said with a little push, the PwDs in the area could find something worth doing for their lives, saying they were uncomfortable about their overreliance on their families and relations for feeding and meeting other basic necessities of life.
Mr Suleiman Hassan, the Wenchi Constituency Secretary of the NDC, and leader of the group told the GNA that the group was established to identify and support the upkeep of vulnerable people like PwDs, widows, the aged and orphans.
He expressed concern about the poor condition of PwDs in the area and called on benevolent individuals, philanthropists, religious and corporate bodies to support them to live comfortable lives.
Dr Solomon Boakye-Duah, a member of the group who presented the wheelchair and the money to the beneficiary, emphasised the group’s dedication to helping to tackle the emerging needs of the vulnerable people in the area.
