Education must liberate the mind — Togbe Afede tells Mawulians

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, has urged students to view education as a lifelong journey of liberation, creativity, and service to humanity.
He stressed that true learning must empower the head, the heart and the hand.
Speaking as the chairman at the grand Durbar at Mawuli School’s 75th Anniversary in Ho, Togbe Afede said education should not be confined to academic achievement alone.
Rather, it must equip young people with innovative and problem-solving skills to prepare them for the challenges of the future.
“Education must go beyond the classroom,” he stated.
He added: “It should liberate the minds of our young people and equip them with creative, innovative, and problem-solving skills. True education must shape individuals who think deeply, act purposefully, and serve humanity with compassion.”
Togbe Afede encouraged students to embrace hard work, discipline, and dedication in their pursuits, adding that learning does not end with formal schooling.
“Learning is a lifelong journey — one that continues well beyond the walls of the classroom,” he emphasised, pointing out, that, “self-confidence and independence are values every young person must cultivate to make a meaningful impact in today’s world.”
Touching sustainability, the Agbogbomefia underscored the importance of establishing and maintaining an endowment fund to secure the school’s financial future.
He recalled contributing to the initiative some years ago and called on all members of the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU) and stakeholders to strengthen the fund to support the school’s continued growth and development.
As a demonstration of commitment, Togbe Afede XIV made a personal donation of GH¢20,000 to the fund, reaffirming his belief in collective responsibility for the school’s progress.
He commended Mawuli School for its legacy of excellence over the past 75 years and lauded its alumni for upholding the school’s name with distinction.
“The achievements of its past students stand as a testament to the school’s enduring legacy and the transformative power of education,” he said.
“As we celebrate this milestone, may we continue to raise generations of leaders who think critically, act responsibly, and serve humanity with integrity and excellence,” he added.
