Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly launches cocoa city festival experience

The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly has launched the ‘Cocoa City Festival Experience’ to celebrate and showcase the pride and heritage of the Sefwi people as Ghana’s cocoa hub.

The festival would feature business forums, cultural displays, youth empowerment programmes, and tourism activities.
It was initiated by Mr Dominic Gyasi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and sought to highlights cocoa’s significant role in shaping the socio-economic and cultural identity of the Sefwi people.
Speaking at the launch, the MCE said the festival was more than just a celebration, and that it was to tell the story of the Sefwi people, whose communities had thrived on cocoa production for generations.

Mr Gyasi noted that cocoa had contributed significantly to education, healthcare, and infrastructure development in the area.
Nana Elluo Payin III, Chief of Sefwi Nsuosua, and Kyedomhene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, described the festival as a premier tourism and business event that celebrated Sefwi Wiawso’s identity as Ghana’s cocoa capital.
Mr Abeiku Aggrey Santana, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority, commended the initiative, highlighting the strong connection between cocoa, culture, and tourism.

He praised the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council and the Municipal Assembly for preserving the rich cultural legacy of the Sefwi people through the festival.
The Cocoa City Festival Experience 2025 is scheduled to run for a week in October, featuring various activities that celebrate Sefwi’s cultural richness and its contribution to Ghana’s cocoa industry.
