The late Rashid Bawa, former Ghana High Commissioner in Abuja, Nigeria and Independent Member of Parliament for the Akan Constituency, has been recognised for his support for the reconstruction of the Ahlor Kofe Footbridge.
The bridge is over River Menu in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.
The footbridge, originally constructed in 2011, serves as a vital link between Ahlor Kofe, Tsevie Kofe, Akabou Village, and surrounding communities but became deplorable in recent years, posing significant risks to residents, who depended on it for daily commuting.
Following an appeal made through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a site visit on September 15, 2024—captured in a publication titled “Ahlor Kofe residents appeal for steel bridge over River Menu”—materials for the footbridge’s rehabilitation were provided through the late diplomat’s support.
Mr. Isaac Dzapaye, Assemblyman for the Menuso Electoral Area, expressed deep appreciation in an interview with the GNA.
He lauded the late Rashid Bawa’s timely intervention and long-standing commitment to the welfare of the people.
“The people of this area will always remember him for his immense contribution, especially for this bridge, which is a lifeline for many,” Mr. Dzapaye stated.
