Downpour affects parts of KadjebiĀ

A heavy rainfall on the night of Wednesday, September 24, has caused significant damage to property in Martin Kordzi, Tadzewu Kpodzi, and Cocoa Market, all suburbs of Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

The torrential rainfall, which lasted for over eight hours, led to widespread flooding of homes and structures in the affected communities.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Solomon Lotsu, a resident of Tadzewu Kpodzi (ARS Chapel) area, described the rainfall as the heaviest he had experienced in his six years of living in the area.

ā€œThis is the most intense rainfall I’ve ever seen here,ā€ he said.

Sister Akpene, another resident, noted that although they anticipated rainfall during the minor season, the volume and impact were unexpected.

ā€œWe knew the rain would come, but not this heavy. It caught many of us off guard,ā€ she told GNA.

Ms. Victoria Agbodzi, a resident of Martin Kordzi, expressed fear over the safety of her home.

ā€œI was scared my building would collapse. The rain was just too heavy,ā€ she said.

Mr. Emmanuel Agbeviade, a resident of the Cocoa Market, revealed that his building had been submerged by the floodwaters and feared it might collapse.

ā€œThe water entered the house and rose so fast. I was afraid the building would give in,ā€ he stated.

Emergency services and community members are currently assessing the damage, as residents begin the cleanup and recovery process.
