The Vodza Landing Beach in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region has been provided with a potable water project to support the activities of fisherfolk in the community.
The initiative, announced in a press release signed by Mr. Victor Dzokoto, Volta Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council (GNCFC), seeks to address the persistent challenges fishers and processors face in accessing clean water for their daily operations.
“The project aims to improve the working conditions and lives of fishermen at the landing beach by curbing water supply challenges,” Mr. Dzokoto said.
He explained that the provision of potable water would also enhance hygiene standards and substantially benefit the fishing community, which depends on the beach for its livelihood.
Mr. Dzokoto reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and productivity of fishers and processors through initiatives funded by revenues generated from the landing beach secretariat.
“We thank all our partners for their support and collaboration, which have helped turn our ideas into real value in driving positive change in the community,” he added.
He stressed that clean water access was essential for improving health, efficiency, and economic outcomes for both individuals and the community at large.
The GNCFC pledged to continue collaborating with stakeholders to improve the livelihoods of fisherfolk in Vodza, describing the initiative as a significant step toward better conditions and prospects for fishing-dependent households.
The potable water supply project reflects a focus on sustainable development and community welfare and forms part of broader efforts to uplift the Vodza Landing Beach fishing industry.
Other benefits of the project include improved sanitation, reduced risk of waterborne diseases, and enhanced productivity, which are expected to boost local economic activities tied to fishing, processing, and trade in Vodza and its surrounding areas.
