Demonstrate impact at care: World Vision Ghana National Director urges staff

The National Director for World Vision Ghana, Tina Makunda has urged field staff to focus on the impact and transformation when modeling community level interventions.

She said impacting lives required carefully crafted programmes of action to meet the needs of the most vulnerable children, their families and communities.

“We should be able to demonstrate impact at care at all levels of our programmes”, she said.

Addressing field staff and managers during a meeting at Savelugu, the Director also commended the staff and management for incredible impacts and transformation achieved in all communities, where World Vision Ghana operates.

The Director is on a significant two-day working visit to the organisation’s northern operations to connect with her team and witness their work firsthand and also understand operational challenges.

As new director, Mukunda wants to understand the linkage between programmes, impact and transformation in both the lives and livelihoods of the children and their families.

Mukunda’s visit began with a meeting with the Area programmes’ managers, special projects leads and Ghana Integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (GI-WASH) team at Savelugu.

She later toured the Quality Water Laboratory, where she was exposed to critical water sampling and analysis and how the laboratory ensures quality assurance in delivering quality water services to the most vulnerable children and their communities.

These sessions were not just formalities; they were open forums designed for genuine connection.

Mukunda listened intently as staff shared updates, celebrated successes, and frankly discussed the operational challenges they face in the field—from logistical hurdles to community engagement.

The director facilitated collaborative brainstorming, urging the team to identify innovative and practical solutions to overcome these barriers. Throughout the discussions, Mukunda consistently reinforced a core idea that every project or intervention must be meticulously modelled and implemented with a razor-sharp focus on creating tangible impact and sustainable transformation for children, their families and their families.

The director’s visit took her to the rural community of Zabzugu, one of the Area Programmes (AP) delivering lifesaving livelihoods and economic activities where she sat and interacted with producer groups, leaders and members of Savings for Transformation (S4T) and community leadership, listening to their perspectives on the partnership.

Most importantly, she met directly with the beneficiaries—mothers, farmers, and children—whose lives are being changed by the Zabzugu Area Programme (AP).

She heard their stories, saw their progress, and observed the real-world results of her team’s efforts.

The director earlier visited and interected with health professionals at the Zabzugu District, where she witnessed the used incubators and oxygen concentrator machines donated by World Vision to the neonatal unit which were saving babies’ lives.

The visit ended with a renewed sense of purpose.

The Director, accompanied by Strategy and Integrated Programmes Director(SIPD), Joshua Baidoo, Northern Operational manager Rexford Bugre, Communications and Marketing manager Yasmine Aouad and the regional accountant, Charles Nyarko left the Zabzugu AP not only with a deeper understanding of the operational landscape, but also with a reinforced belief in the team’s commitment to the mission of the organisation.

Mukunda carried the voices of the staff and the beneficiaries back with her, ready to steer the national strategy to support the work being undertaken in the region.
