The Children’s Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, Sunyani Central, has presented teaching and learning materials to the Nwawasua Municipal Assembly Basic School in the Municipality.
They comprised over 2,000 exercise books, 106 boxes of pens, 886 packets of pencils, 36 packets of sharpeners, 36 packets of erasers, 65 mathematical sets, 125 packets of whiteboard markers, 206 boxes of chalks and 40 hard copy Bibles.
Pastor Stephen Denkyi Asante, the Head Pastor of the Sunyani Central District of the Church of Pentecost, at a short ceremony at Nwawasua, a farming community, said the presentation was in line with activities outlined for the weeklong celebration of the children’s ministry.
He said the church realised that the school truly needed assistance and that compelled the Ministry to go to their aid, saying “We believe it’s our duty to support the less privileged.”
Pastor Asante encouraged other churches and corporate bodies to also support the effective promotion, teaching and learning in deprived communities, advising families and teachers to also do more to instill discipline and the fear of God into school children.
He said it required collective efforts in bringing up children in a more responsible way for them to grow to become useful adults.
Mr Abraham Nsowah Kaabawi, the Headmaster of the school thanked the donors for the gesture and assured that the items would be used for their intended purpose.
He said the materials would lessen the financial burdens of parents, saying presently the school had 530 pupils and students.
Mr Kaabawi appealed for more desks for the school children as well as support towards the completion of the kindergarten block project being put up by the school.
Pastor Daniel Dickson, the Nwawasua District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost, appealed to the government to commit to improving educational infrastructure in deprived communities, to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
