The Second Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Capacity Building Conference of the Local Government Service Association of Physical Planners (LOGSAPP) is set for Friday September 12, 2025.
A statement issued and signed by Mrs Gifty Nyarko, the National Interim President of the Association said the event would be held at the Amoono-Neizer Conference Centre of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
The theme for the two-day AGM is “Planning for resilient, inclusive, climate-sensitive and disaster-free communities for efficient infrastructure development and service delivery”.
A copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the AGM aimed at strengthening local planning systems and promoting efficient, inclusive, and climate-resilient infrastructure and service delivery.
Participants would include planning professionals, local government officials, civil society actors, academia, ministers of state and representatives of development partners like the World Bank and the German Development Cooperation as well as experts in the sector.
The statement said public participation was highly encouraged, urging urban and regional planners, engineers, students and NGOs and the private sector to be interested in sustainable urban development and climate resilience.
It said the event would also tackle complexities in the nation’s development context in the face of rapid urbanisation, climate threats, and increasing infrastructure demands.
The statement stressed the need for the government to empower the association to plan better, respond faster and build smarter systems, as resilience was not merely about surviving shocks, but also delivering inclusive services, protecting vulnerable populations and ensuring sustainable development outcomes.
Commenting on the AGM in an interview with the GNA, Mr Agyenim Boateng a Chairperson of the Planning Committee highlighted the vital role of the meeting, highlighting the need to strengthen technical capacity and fostering collaboration between the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.
He said there was the need to integrate advanced spatial data tools and climate-sensitive planning techniques into building communities that were not only resilient to the impacts of climate change but also ensuring sustainable and disaster-resilient urban growth.
Mr Kofi Yeboah, another Chairperson of the Planning Committee said the AGM would provide a common platform for knowledge sharing and exchange, innovation and promotion of inclusive planning processes that prioritised vulnerable groups as well as gender equity in infrastructure development.
