Hohoe ready for Feed Ghana Programme – Agric Director

Madam Sandra Ofori, Hohoe Municipal Director of Agriculture, says the Municipality is ready for the implementation of government’s ‘Feed Ghana Programme’.

The programme, launched in April 2025, seeks to transform Ghana’s agricultural sector, ensure food security, create sustainable employment, reduce import dependency, and boost domestic production and export.

Addressing the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the 9th Hohoe Municipal Assembly, Madam Ofori said the Municipality was well-prepared since it already had farmlands, storage facilities, warehouses, a rice processing plant, and farmhouses to support the initiative.

She noted that Hohoe would be viable under many of the selected value chains, including rice and maize (cereals and legumes), tomatoes and pepper (vegetables), cassava, yam, and plantain (starchy crops), poultry and ruminants (livestock), as well as coconut and oil palm (tree crops).

The Programme has nine sub-components, among them crop and livestock development, establishment of farmers’ service centres, farm bank development, institutional farming, feed for industry, agro-production enclaves, infrastructure development, innovative financing, and institutional and regulatory reforms.

Activities under the initiative include improved irrigation access, quality agro-inputs, improved livestock breeds, feed and vaccines, as well as mechanisation, extension, and veterinary services. Others cover market linkages, secured land development especially for youth and women, and reliable access to markets.

She explained that interested farmers, who must belong to active farmer-based organisations or form new groups, were being registered and would receive the necessary preparation to benefit from the programme.

Madam Ofori appealed to Assembly members to assist the Directorate in securing more lands to ensure the success of the initiative.
