Muslim women urged to contribute to progressive development

Umi Meimuna Abban, the Coordinator of the National Women’s Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS), has urged Muslim women to make their impacts be felt in accelerating national development.
She said women ought to avail themselves and contribute to the development of society, saying the collective role of women in progressive national development remained unparalleled.
Umi Abban noted that the government also required the collective contribution of women towards the implementation of its flagship policies and programmes.
She was addressing the opening session of the 27th Annual National Women’s Conference of the IMS, underway at Otaakrom in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The three-day conference is on the theme: “The role of a Muslim woman in nation building through commitment”, and is being attended by Muslim women and girls and some Islamic scholars drawn from the various regions of the country.
Umi Abban also urged Muslim women to be more responsible, manage their homes well as well as adhere to environmental cleanliness, urging them to revive the ancient Muslim woman communal labour spirit.
Hajia Mariam Suleiman-Nketia, the National Secretary of the IMS, said several activities including Islamic teachings, physical exercises, general health screening, sporting activities and clean up exercise had been outlined for the conference.
She said some of the women would also benefit from employable skills training to help improve their socio-economic livelihoods.
Imam Hassan Yeboah, the Techiman Krobo Imam in the Bono East Region, lauded the conference urged the organisers to intensify the teachings of and propagation of Islam.
