Homowo Open Table Tennis tournament kicks off on August 30

The Greater Accra Table Tennis Association (GATTA), with support from the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), will organise the National Open Table Tennis tournament on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The one-day tournament to be held at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium aims to unite table tennis lovers in the iconic Homowo festival.

Over 281 table tennis players across the country, both young and old, would be participating in this year’s tournament.

The Homowo National Open tournament traced its roots to 2006, when the maiden edition of the DHL Ga Homowo Open brought together over 100 players at the Borstal Institute.

Since its inception, the tournament has produced a roll call of champions, from Mohammed Ali, Celia Baah-Danso, Emmanuel Commey, and Eva Adom Amankwaa, as well as international winners like Nigeria’s Sunday Ayodele.
This year’s Homowo National Open promises fierce battles, unstoppable rallies and unforgettable stories.
Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, the President of the GTTA, said the Homowo National Open Championship was more than just a competition.

He said, “It’s a platform for nurturing champions, promoting cultural identity, and strengthening Ghana’s position in the global table tennis community.”
