The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has secured a strategic partnership with Adesa Productions Limited (APL) for the full-scale production, management, and broadcast of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the 2025/2026 season.
The official launch of the partnership, held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, brought together high-profile dignitaries and stakeholders from across government, corporate, and sports administration.
Among those in attendance were the President of the GFA, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku; Vice-President, Mr Mark Addo, Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah; Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Iddie Adams and Majority Leader of Parliament, Mr Mahama Ayariga.
The GFA’s partnership with APL marks a bold step towards reimagining Ghana’s top-flight league as a modern, commercially viable, and globally competitive sports product.
Mr Simeon-Okraku, in his keynote address, said the new business model places a premium on players and fans of local football.
“We are rolling out a process that places a premium on what our players want and what you need. For the first time, we are building a structure where our game does not only entertain but also pays for itself, sustains the clubs, and builds wealth for all stakeholders involved,” said President Simeon-Okraku.
He added that the new structure would be anchored in sustainability, innovation, and partnerships, focusing on robust commercialisation, high-quality content production, and a dynamic blend of corporate and public sector collaboration.
The GFA President also announced that each of the 18 Premier League clubs would receive GHc1 million each before the end of September.
“This is not a grant. This is not just a number – it is a commitment to club transformation. It is the difference between delayed salaries and timely payments; between outdated medical rooms and fully equipped health centres; between empty stands and vibrant, media-ready stadiums,” Mr Simeon-Okraku said.
A portion of the funds would be allocated toward stadium infrastructure upgrades, including the renovation of players’ boxes, modernisation of health facilities, and the technological enablement of venues to support live broadcasting.
In a groundbreaking move to incentivise competitiveness and professionalism throughout the league, the Football Association will introduce, for the first time in its history, a merit-based prize structure that rewards every club based on their final league position.
“Whether you place first or twentieth, your effort, your performance, and your participation will yield financial benefit. This brings meaning to every game and keeps the competitive spirit alive throughout the season,” the GFA President stated.
The initiative aims to instill fairness and meritocracy, ensuring that every match counts and every club, regardless of position, feels valued and motivated.
The GFA–APL partnership is expected to drive comprehensive brand enhancement, stronger corporate sponsorship, and a renewed sense of national pride in domestic football.
As the 2025/26 season approaches, Ghanaian football fans, players, clubs, and stakeholders alike now look forward to a league reimagined, reenergised, and redefined.
