Volta Youths in Agriculture welcome Mahama’s initiatives to distribute coconut seedlings

The Volta Youth in Agriculture (VYA) has expressed their heartfelt commendation to President John Dramani Mahama for the initiative to distribute 3 million coconut seedlings to coconut farmers across the country.

This move has brought great joy to the group, who believed the initiative would provide opportunities for coconut farmers to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the overall growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector.

Madam Joy Mawutor Fiamawle, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association, told the Ghana News Agency, that the initiative would have a significant impact on the livelihoods of coconut farmers.

“With about 700 coconuts in our farm in the Region already while are expecting more soon, the distribution of 3 million coconut seedlings will boost the sector and provide a bountiful harvest for the nation,” she said.

She said that the VYA has vowed to continue the journey in agriculture with renewed determination in unity and support which would enable them to sow more seeds of progress and reap a bountiful harvest for their beloved region and nation at large.

“This initiative has instilled a sense of hope and optimism among the group, and we are eager to work together to make it a success.”

Madam Fiamawle, urged the government to support and build on the initiative to ensure successful implementation and sustainability of the projects of the group and encouraged other stakeholders to join hands in supporting Ghana’s agricultural development.

She said that the VYA has about 166 members who were business oriented personnel, agro-chemists, and experienced farmers were of the hope that the initiative would contribute significantly to the overall growth and sustainability of the agricultural in the region and the provision of coconut seedlings to farmers would not only improve the livelihoods of farmers but also increase the country’s coconut production.

She indicated that the location of the association’s farm at Tokorkoe in the Volta Region was strategic to enable provide easy access to farmers and proximity to the regional capital Ho, would also enable farmers to easily purchase seedlings and receive support from the VYA members.

 

Madam Fiamawle said association would soon establish coconut farms in the various districts in the region in the subsequent years, and commended other farmers at Anlo-Afiadenyigba in the Keta municipality for offering coconut seedlings for sale that provided an opportunity for others to access quality seedlings.

She said Volta Youths in Agriculture association was a group of young individual farmers deeply rooted in desire to see their communities flourish and the nation thrive through the practice of agriculture while the move by government has brought hope and optimism to the group members who were eager to work together to make it a success.

GNA gathered that the successful implementation of the free cocoanut seedlings distribution by government would require the support of all stakeholders, including the farmers, and other industry players to provide hope to the farmers to be fully committed to work together with all stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative.
