Nkwanta SHS student’s death: Former Minister appeals for calm

Dr. Joshua Makubu, former Minister for the Oti Region, has appealed calm and restraint following the tragic death of Nkwanta Senior High School student, killed in a shooting incident in a renewed tribal violence.
In a press release, Dr. Makubu expressed deep sadness over the student’s passing, describing it as a heartbreaking loss to the deceased family, entire community and country at large.
The former Minister appealed to the factions to exercise restraint and allow space for reflection and justice, urging everyone to stand together in mourning the loss of the young student.
Dr. Makubu emphasised the importance of upholding peace and refraining from acts that could inflame tensions further, highlighting the shared history of coexistence among the Adele, Challa and Akyode people.
He urged the public to give state authorities the opportunity to thoroughly investigate the tragedy and ensure that justice is served for the deceased.
He stressed that too many lives have already been lost in Nkwanta and called for an end to further bloodshed, and rather promote peace, dialogue and community values.
Dr Makubu, emphasised the need for peace and unity in the face of the tragedy.
Two other female students were also hit by stray bullets enroute to School but said to be recuperating at the hospital.
Meanwhile, some eight suspects have been arrested and assisting security agencies to delve into the renewed hostilities, stemming from performance of rituals to usher in the new yam some days ago.
A curfew has been imposed on the area to quell further atrocities.
