Laureate calls on MTN to do more to tackle fraudsters

“When I first received the mobile phone call from the MTN MoMo, I initially taught it was fraudsters’ and never bordered to give my attention,” Mr. Emmanuel Ansu Gyeabour, a mobile phone repairer, rewarded by the MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) Limited has said.

The laurate received GHC10,000 cash and some souvenirs and shared experience with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono Region, urging the company to do more to stem the growing trend of fraudulent activities on the MoMo wallet.

The MTN MoMo recognised and rewarded Mr. Gyeabour, who is 21 years old as the “One million MoMo App Customer”.

MoMo is a service offered by MTN Ghana that allows users to manage finances, make payments, and conduct other transactions using their mobile phones.

Mr Gyeabour said: “We have embraced, accepted and used MoMo, however our fears are the growing fraudulent activities”, worrying that many innocent and unsuspecting MoMo users in the area had been scammed.

“My Family and I are very excited and appreciative about the recognition, but the company must do more to control the online transaction fraud and to build and sustain the confidence of MoMo customers here,” he advised.

Mr Gyeabour called on the MTN Ghana to open a branch in the Dormaa Municipality, saying “because there is no office here, we have to always travel to Sunyani whenever we encounter problems”.

He also called on the company to improve its network coverage, saying the poor network connectivity and data use were inconvenient for MTN customers.

Mr Razak Issaka Ali, the Chief Commercial Officer told the GNA that MoMo remained committed to providing improved financial security for customers and users.

He urged MoMo users and businesses to upload the new MTN Momo App, saying with the use of the App, the customers were more secure in transacting businesses online assuring that “the use of the MoMo App is easier, much simpler and faster”.

He said: “The App comes with the best security technology including two factor authentication”, saying “we are also re-introducing the biometric features too”.
