BECE 2025 sees uptick in Eastern Region candidate numbers 

This year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) began effectively on June 11 and will end June 18 with rising candidate numbers in the Eastern Region with education authorities declaring zero-tolerance for examination malpractices.
A total of 55,831 candidates are participating in the exams in the Eastern Region, which are being conducted at 195 designated centers.
This year’s cohort includes 27,753 males and 28,078 females, drawn from 1,535 public and 629 private schools, underscoring a near gender balance in participation.
The figures show a notable increase from last year, when 53,264 candidates sat for the BECE in the region.
The 2025 statistics mark an increment of 2,567 candidates, signaling steady growth in basic education enrolment and completion.
Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining integrity during examination period, assuring the public of zero tolerance for examination malpractices.
She stated that she had engaged all the 33 District and Municipal Directors of GES to emphasize the importance of maintaining discipline and decorum among students during the examination period.
She urged the candidates to comport themselves responsibly and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the examination process.
“Our focus is on fostering self-confidence among students so that they can perform to the best of their abilities without distractions or misconduct. This approach not only ensures fairness but also upholds the reputation of our educational system,” she said.
She highlighted that these efforts aligned with the broader goal of promoting self-actualization among students, which ultimately contributes to national development.
“When students excel honestly, they become valuable contributors to society, bringing their resources, energy, and knowledge to the advancement of our nation,” she added.
The education authorities have reported that the examination is progressing smoothly so far, with all necessary measures in place to ensure a fair and transparent process.
