Manchester City midfielder Rodrigo Hernández Cascante popular known as Rodri is the winner of the 2024 Balloon d’or award for men’s category. He has now become the first Premier League player to win the award since Cristiano
Ronaldo in 2008.
For the second straight time Aitana Bonmati, FC Barcelona player won the award for the women’s category. The Don Carlo Ancelotti coach for Real Madrid, was named men’s coach of the year whilst former Chelsea and now US women’s national team manager Emma Hayes also won women’s Coach of the Year.
Rodri edged pass Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham to win the award.
After placing second in the Balloon d’or men’s award, Vinicius Junior made a post on X, formerly called Twitter: “I will do it 10 times if necessary. They are not ready.”
In the 2023-24 season, Rodri had a spectacular season, winning the Premier League for a fourth successive time, he won the Club World Cup, European Super Cup and the Euro 2024 trophy with the Spanish national team.
He also won the Player of the tournament award at the Euro 2024 Championship.
