A cholera outbreak in the Ada enclave has claimed two lives, with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) confirming a total of 43 cases so far.
The outbreak, affecting the Ada East and Ada West districts in the Greater Accra Region, has prompted health authorities to take swift action to contain the situation and prevent further fatalities.
Dr. Frank Bekoe, Director of Public Health at GHS, confirmed the statistics and assured that efforts are underway to manage the spread and prevent the situation from worsening.
He highlighted that health officials are closely monitoring the situation, focusing on tracking contacts of those infected and ensuring early detection of new cases.
The cholera outbreak is caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacteria, a highly contagious pathogen transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food and water. The disease thrives in areas with poor sanitation and limited access to clean drinking water, causing severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration, which can be fatal if not promptly treated.
