The Actors Guild of Nigeria, or AGN, has suspended actress Halima Abubakar for what it deemed to be professional misconduct.
Abubakar’s “participation in defaming Nollywood” was discovered, according to the AGN, during a two-year covert probe.
The Guild, which announced her suspension in a statement on Friday, said that the secret panel is looking into the cases of other female members who are on the watch list, particularly in light of the recent disclosure of names of people allegedly involved with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“Guilty of spreading false information about fellow colleagues, associates, and patrons, including allegations of extramarital affairs with highly placed individuals,” the Guild declared when the actress was found guilty.
“Following the comprehensive investigative report prepared by the Special Secret Investigation Panel, which was established in 2022 to carry out a covert investigation into the activities of certain bloggers and blogs since 2022.”The Panel discovered after two years of research that Miss Halima Abubakar was the source of all the defamatory material.
Halima Abubakar is thus put on indefinite leave of absence. The National Discipline Committee will hear from her to decide on the full penalty. Additionally, she is not allowed to take part in any AGN or filmmaking operations. “On the other hand, the secret panel is looking into some of the female members on the watch-list, particularly in the release of names that are allegedly connected to the Senate President.”
