Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has advised Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the former Majority Leader and now the Minority Leader in Parliament, to adopt humility in his political and public engagements.
Following events in Parliament on Thursday, October 17, 2024, which saw Afenyo-Markin transition from Majority Leader to Minority Leader in mere minutes, Bawah Mogtari took to the social media platform X to emphasize the value of humility in leadership. She cautioned Afenyo-Markin against pride in his endeavors.
“When God blesses you early in life, be humble; remember that many others, some even more capable or deserving, were not chosen. Every promotion should be met with humility and respect. You are a good guy, but you’ve been too partisan, and the disrespect shown toward Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was unnecessary. Take a few lessons from this experience, sir,” she wrote.
Afenyo-Markin’s surprising change of position, moving from Majority to Minority Leader on the same day, left many listeners and viewers stunned during a live broadcast. During an interview, he insisted that the journalist introduce him by his former title, “Majority Leader,” before proceeding with the discussion.
This leadership shift reflects a dramatic turn of events for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament. Until the afternoon of October 17, 2024, they constituted the Majority Caucus but quickly found themselves in the Minority side of the House following the unfolding developments.
