Akua Donkor threatens to sue John Mahama over election remarks and accuses him of killing Atta Mills

The presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, has threatened to take legal action against former President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Akua Donkor expressed her outrage at Mahama’s recent remarks, in which he suggested that some 2024 presidential candidates should not have been qualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest the upcoming elections. She stated that she would sue him, demanding an explanation and accountability for his comments.

During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 15, 2024, Akua Donkor criticized Mahama, saying, “If Mahama claims to be president, I am taking him to court for two trillion. Did he give me money to form my party? Why would he say I shouldn’t have been qualified? Am I not a human being from Ghana?”

She further alleged that Mahama was involved in the death of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, calling on the court to investigate the matter. “He will have to prove these things in court. I know him very well—he had a hand in Atta Mills’ death, and I will take him to court for that too,” she added.

Akua Donkor’s statements were in response to remarks Mahama made on October 13, 2024, at a durbar in Nabullo, Sissala East, in the Upper West Region. Mahama had criticized the EC for disqualifying the People’s National Convention (PNC) candidate Bernard Mornah from the 2024 election, stating that some of the approved candidates did not measure up to Mornah’s qualifications.

While Mahama did not mention any specific names in his speech, Akua Donkor insisted that his remarks were targeted at her, and she vowed to take legal action against him and the EC to defend her right to participate in the election.
