Bimbo Akintola opens up on why she remains single after losing her forever love

Popular Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola, 54, has revealed that the passing of her “forever love” is the reason she has not pursued another romantic relationship.

In a recent interview, when asked about her marital status, Akintola responded, “Are you married? No.” She explained that her decision to remain unmarried stems from the death of the person she truly loved.

“He died… I don’t talk about it, but he died. Do you know how long it took me to find him? A very long time, but he’s gone,” she shared emotionally.

Akintola emphasized that she doesn’t believe in getting married just for the sake of it. “If you are not going to be truthful to your vows, then why do it? The person I could do forever with is gone. I’m not saying you can’t have two or three loves in a lifetime, but it took me so long to find him, and now he’s gone.”

The actress added that she is not willing to get married simply to conform to societal expectations. “I am too old to ignore red flags or manage a relationship just to make people happy. Why should I marry so the world can say, ‘You’ve done it’? It doesn’t make sense. I don’t care about pleasing anyone. I live truthfully because, in the end, it’s between me and God—no one else will answer for me.”

Despite her stance, Akintola affirmed her belief in marriage. However, she clarified that she hasn’t met anyone she can envision spending the rest of her life with.

“I believe in marriage, but the person I wanted to do it with is gone. I’ve dated other people, but I never saw forever with them.”

Akintola also noted that she is open to love in the future, regardless of her age. “If I find someone I see forever with—even at 82—I’ll do it. But I won’t get married unless I truly see that person.”

The actress concluded by stressing the importance of being intentional about marriage. “Marriage is very difficult, and you shouldn’t do it with someone you know you can’t stay with forever.”
