Mahama vows economic revival, urges youth not to lose hope

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s struggling economy, promising bold reforms if elected in the December 7 general elections.

Speaking to energized crowds in Nadowli and Wichaw during his three-day campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Mahama shared a message of hope and resilience, especially directed at the country’s disillusioned youth.

He blamed the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as eight years of economic mismanagement, leaving Ghanaians—particularly the youth—burdened by rising unemployment, stagnant wages, and a lack of economic prospects.

“The NPP’s policies have only deepened the financial struggles of ordinary citizens,” Mahama stated, citing rampant inflation, unsustainable debt, and a depreciating currency as key factors contributing to the current economic crisis.

In his appeal to the youth, Mahama acknowledged their frustrations: “Many young people are losing hope. They don’t see a future in this country, and I understand. After these last eight years, you are justified to feel this way.”

He continued by offering encouragement, saying, “But I stand here as a former president and your incoming president to appeal to you, my children, not to lose hope. Many of you are the same age as my sons, and I assure you—this country will rise again.”
