Tension erupts in Nima as NDC and NPP supporters clash, gunshots reported

Chaos broke out in Nima, a suburb of Accra, on Sunday as supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed. Reports indicate that the supporters involved were from Nima, Mamobi, and Newtown—predominantly Zongo communities within the capital.

Viral videos of the incident show members of both parties engaging in physical altercations, exchanging blows. The situation quickly escalated, with gunshots ringing out in the area.

One video captured people fleeing as gunfire erupted. In another clip, a man wearing an NDC t-shirt, allegedly hit by a bullet in the leg, was seen lying on the ground.

A boy speaking in Twi is heard saying, “The NPP members have shot an NDC man,” as he responds to a woman questioning him.

The video also shows NDC supporters rushing the injured man to the hospital. Another image from the scene reveals a man with a visible wound on his back, believed to be from a bullet.
