Atlético Madrid’s Stadium Renamed

Atlético Madrid has secured a nine-year naming rights partnership with Saudi state-owned Riyadh Air, solidifying the airline’s presence in Spanish football. The Metropolitano stadium will now be known as the Riyadh Air Metropolitano until 2033.

This deal strengthens Riyadh Air’s connection with Atlético Madrid, building on their existing shirt sponsorship agreement worth €40 million ($44 million) per season from 2023-2027.

Launched in March 2023 by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Riyadh Air has yet to begin commercial operations. This partnership underscores Saudi Arabia’s increasing investment in global football.

The Metropolitano stadium, opened in 2017, has had two previous naming rights deals:

1. Wanda Metropolitano (2017-2022) with Chinese real estate group Wanda.
2. Civitas Metropolitano (2022) with Spanish real estate developer Civitas.

The club hailed Riyadh Air as its most important sponsor, though financial details remain undisclosed. The new stadium name will be installed on the main, northeast, and southeast facades in the coming weeks.
