The presidential candidate of the Movement for Change/Afrafranto Alliance, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone project at Ejisu if elected president in the December 7 polls.
During a visit to the Palace of Ejisu Manhene, Nana Afrane Okese IV, on October 3, 2024, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “If elected as president, I will build the biggest projects that can turn the fortunes of the country.” He described the Greater Kumasi Industrial City as “a massive step toward industrializing our economy.”
The $2.5 billion initiative aims to revolutionize Ghana’s industrial sector, create vast employment opportunities, and establish the Ashanti Region as the industrial hub of West Africa.
Mr. Kyerematen acknowledged Nana Afrane Okese IV’s pivotal role in conceptualizing the project, demonstrating their shared vision for the region.
Alan Kyerematen disclosed that he single-handedly secured $30 million in World Bank funding and $100 million from the Republic of Korea for the project’s first phase.
While acknowledging the government’s Buankra Inland Port initiative, Mr. Kyerematen stressed that the Greater Kumasi Industrial City is crucial for accelerating industrial progress.
Describing the project, Mr. Kyerematen said, “This will be the largest industrial project since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Tema Industrial City. It’s a great vision that will revolutionize Ghana’s industrial sector.” He highlighted its potential to:
– Create high-rate employment
– Generate government revenue through corporate and income taxes
– Boost exports while reducing imports
– Stabilize the country’s foreign exchange rate
The Ejisu Manhene endorsed Alan Kyerematen’s presidential bid, commending his commitment to industrializing the country and creating lasting change.
Mr. Kyerematen’s visit marked the second day of his 21-day Caravan Tour in the Ashanti Region, reinforcing his dedication to transforming the region into an industrial powerhouse.
With unemployment a pressing national security issue, the Greater Kumasi Industrial City project is poised to drive sustainable growth and create long-term employment opportunities, cementing Mr. Kyerematen’s vision for Ghana’s economic stability.
