Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona’s star goalkeeper, has undergone successful surgery on his right knee to repair a patellar tendon injury. The surgery was performed by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau under the supervision of FC Barcelona’s Medical Services at the Hospital de Barcelona.
While Barcelona hasn’t provided a specific recovery timeline, similar injuries typically require 6-9 months of rehabilitation. Ter Stegen is reportedly aiming to return before the end of the season, which would be a remarkable recovery. If he meets this goal, he could be back in time for the final five La Liga games, including El Clasico, and potentially the Champions League semi-finals.
In the meantime, Barcelona is exploring options to replace Ter Stegen. The club is allowed to sign a free agent goalkeeper, with Claudio Bravo, Keylor Navas, and Wojciech Szczesny being mentioned as potential replacements. Bravo, a former Barcelona goalkeeper, has even offered to come out of retirement to help the team.
