Presbyterian Church Moderator Calls for Unity in Fight Against Galamsey

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has called for a united front against illegal mining (galamsey), citing its devastating impact on the nation’s future.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new manse at Mabang in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality, Rt Rev. Dr. Kwakye emphasized the need for collective action to protect Ghana’s water bodies and forests.

“Galamsey is destroying our water bodies, and it’s crucial we come together to fight this menace. Our children’s future is at stake,” he stressed.

Rt Rev. Dr. Kwakye urged Ghanaians to prioritize the country’s well-being, emphasizing the importance of responsible stewardship.

“We must protect our nation for future generations. Let’s do what’s right and focus on conducting a clean and peaceful election,” he added, referencing the upcoming December 7 general election.

The event also highlighted the importance of community development. Daniel Kwaku Botwe, MP for Okere, donated a fully furnished five-bedroom manse to the Emmanuel Congregation of the Presbyterian Church in memory of his late father.

Mr. Botwe’s family established the Master Dako Memorial Foundation to support the aged, health, and educational initiatives in areas where his late father worked.

“We find joy in supporting people and communities. That’s how we were brought up,” Mr. Botwe said.

Nana Buabeng Ampaw, Acting President of the Mabang Traditional Council, appealed to politicians to conduct campaigns without insults and violence.

“Politics is about sharing ideas to promote national development, not fighting,” he emphasized.

The Presbyterian Church’s stance on galamsey and community development serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action and responsible leadership in shaping Ghana’s future.
