Ghanaians Studying in US Receive $9 Million in Scholarships

Ghanaian students secured $9 million in scholarships to study in the US last year, thanks to Education USA advisers’ guidance.

US Ambassador Virginia Palmer announced this at the 2024 Education USA College Fair in Accra, which featured 69 universities, up from 45 last year.

Ghana has the largest number of African students studying in the US and the 14th largest globally at the graduate level.

The embassy’s Education USA Adviser programme helps students research universities, and there are diverse funding options available.

Last year, the embassy held over 10,000 visa application interviews and increased visa section staff by 50% to address the backlog.

Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum encouraged students to explore scholarship opportunities and apply to multiple foundations.

He expressed hope that the relationship with the embassy would benefit participants and that Ghanaians who studied in the US would return to contribute to national development.

Education USA Accra provides guidance on accredited US institutions and advises students through various channels.
