Ahafo Ano South East NPP Parliamentary Candidate Frederick Acheampong has warned that the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) proposed free first-year tertiary education policy may inadvertently lead to increased dropout rates.
At a health walk event in the Ashanti Region, Acheampong cautioned that while the policy may attract many students, most beneficiaries will struggle to continue due to financial constraints.
“Many students will rush to take advantage of the free first-year education, but most will be forced to drop out when they cannot afford subsequent years,” Acheampong said.
Acheampong urged the public to scrutinize the policy, describing it as unrealistic. He accused the NDC and its flagbearer of prioritizing political gain over sustainable policy-making.
“The NPP has a proven track record of implementing sustainable education policies, unlike the NDC’s unrealistic promises,” Acheampong emphasized.
As the 2024 elections approach, education policy has become a contentious issue between the NPP and NDC.
