Ghanaian actor Mr Beautiful has disclosed that his former colleague, Agya Koo, harboured a deep dislike for him, seeing him as a threat to his dominance in the Kumawood film industry.

In an interview, Mr Beautiful explained that while Agya Koo was instrumental in popularizing local movies after Santo’s death, he became possessive of the spotlight. “When Agya Koo became popular, he wanted to be the only one in the limelight,” Mr Beautiful remarked.

According to Mr Beautiful, Agya Koo would go as far as halting productions when he was unavailable and blacklisting producers who didn’t comply. Mr Beautiful was eventually cast alongside Agya Koo in his debut movie, Sika Nibre, which was a success, but this sparked tensions.

“Agya Koo didn’t want to be cast alongside me as lead character because he feared I would ride on his wings and diminish his influence,” he revealed, adding that producers even had to rewrite scripts to avoid casting him alongside Agya Koo.

Mr Beautiful also mentioned that when Akrobeto joined Kumawood, Miracle Films had to strategize to avoid similar tensions by making Akrobeto form a bond with Agya Koo.

“Agya Koo is very talented, but his attitude forced producers to devise a strategy to take him out, and eventually, no one wanted to work with him,” Mr Beautiful concluded.
